Metro Area Heart Walk & Fox 5 News Team

This is my second year walking with the Fox 5 News Team in the Metro Atlanta Heart Walk. I walk in memory of my dad, Ralph Gerald "Jerry" Garner, who died at the young age of 64 of a massive heart attack, and in support of my mom, Barbara, who has been diagnosed with coronary disease and heart failure (the diagnosis and a stint insertion all last month). The American Heart Association has been a great help to my family by providing thorough information about mom's condition and procedures and lifestyle changes that are essential for her recovery via their web site www.americanheart.org. AHA even sent my mom flowers at Saint Joesph's as a "get well soon and thank you" for my family's support of Heart Walk!

The American Heart Association's outreach programs have given my family more time with my mom. That is my motivation to raise $5,000 and to become a team captain for the Fox 5 News team this year. I encourage others to join our team and have a great time helping others find hope. I am also honored that I will be on a billboard in Atlanta that will advertise the Heart Walk for next year!

The Metro Atlanta Heart Walk is November 1st at Turner Field. It raises money for heart research and provides more health services and information for the greater Atlanta area. The AHA will have tents set up for free health screenings. There will even be an area reserved for children at the walk. COME OUT and WALK!

T2 Tennis-Great Fun!

My husband and I decided to play T2 tennis for the first time after hearing from friends and other ALTA players about the informal format and the fun that everyone was experiencing. So we enrolled in Mixed Doubles - but not as partners. Instead, he's playing with his ALTA Mixed partner from their A level Vickery team, and I signed up with her husband. We are playing 2.5 and they are much higher.

Scheduling matches has been easy. When Jeff and I play, Debbie and Bob show up to cheer us on. And we are undefeated thru round #1 of playoffs! We watch Debbie and Bob play (I thought T2 was intended to be relaxed and laid back?) who also won their first playoff round. Then, it's a good excuse for the 4 of us to go out to dinner to brag about our match! Of course, we get some guidance from the "pros", but we take it in stride and remind them both that we haven't lost (they are 18-2 overall including ALTA and T2 Mixed). Ha!

It's been a hilarious experience! Fun, good tennis, food, exercise, and a million laughs! And we stay happily married because trying to blend playing levels and play with my husband would not be a positive thing. Same with Debbie and Jeff, who is just getting back into tennis.

For Bob and me, it's a great release from the long hours in real estate. Who knows, maybe Jeff and I will win the City Championship!

If you play tennis, try T2!
